How it started

North Idaho Tallow Co. began in a home kitchen in 2023. The first bar of soap was made for a husband, using whatever was already on hand. That included bacon drippings, cleaned and purified until they were fit for soap. It is why you will still find lard next to the tallow in many of our bars today.

Friends started asking for soap of their own. Then our family grew, and our skincare needs grew with it. One bar of soap turned into balms, lip balms, scrubs, and more, all made first for our own household. In early 2025, we made it a business.

What we believe

Skincare should be simple, effective, and made from ingredients you recognize. We build everything around grass-fed tallow, a traditional ingredient people relied on long before modern skincare. You will not find synthetic fragrance, artificial colors, fillers, or endocrine disruptors in anything we make.

How we make it

Everything is handmade in small batches in North Idaho. Our soaps are cold-processed and scented only with real essential oils. Our balms start with three ingredients: grass-fed tallow, jojoba oil, and beeswax. Nearly everything we sell started as something we made for our own family.
